» Rebero Orphan Center
Rebero Orphan Center (ROC) association in Kigali, Rwanda started in 2003 with the sole aim of bringing together orphans of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. ROC assists children who are orphans as a result of HIV/AIDS, children heading families as a result of their parents’ role in the genocide, and other categories of vulnerable children. Rebero Orphan Center was previously assisting the vulnerable families of widow victims of the genocide and women diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, mostly because they have been raped during the period of war. ROC was previously run by Emmanuel Ngabire and Leonce Mupenzi, two 27-year-old genocide survivors, who live in Kigali and work in area hotels. Rebero operated on a $30,000 budget annually – this budget was met by Emmanuel and Leonce’s tip income and a handful of outside investors. In 2007, 200 women and children, orphaned by the genocide, benefited from Rebero Orphan Center. At this time, the EFA International Group has evolved this orphan center into a new, more advanced NGO. The new version of ROC is now called Children Support Center (CSC) and is operated by Leonce Mupenzi.

» Mwanankabandi Orphan Center
Mwanankabandi Orphan Center in Kigali, Rwanda was founded in 2007 with goal of helping the orphans in Kicukiro-Gikondo Rwanda. The director and dream behind Mwanankabandi foundation is Kabera Alphonse. Alphonse is both a genocide survivor and orphan himself. From his own experiences he decided to invest his time, energy, and education to help other orphans and vulnerable children. He was just six years old during the genocide in 1994. Alphonse divides his time between being a full time university student (funded by a government scholarship) and caring for the needs of 50 children. With SVF handling most of the educational needs of Mwanankabandi for 2010, the children have been afforded the opportunity to participate in dance groups and strengthen their cultural history and appreciation of the arts.
